Commission

The above is a commission . Unfortunately the photo
doesn't bring out the strength of the colours used.

The above canvas is painted in Acrylic and the word

spiritual is in Copper paint which looks lovely when it reflacts the light

Elemental Canvases

Canvases with prepared Acrylic painted backgrounds 12" x 12"

A few weeks ago I got it into my head to buy 20 canvases....just for the hell of it . I have a lot of canvases at the studio but these all seen to be large and absolutely no use to take to camps to sell. The idea is that I will paint these canvases for the Pagan/Spiritual market and not aimed for the general market. That way I can be 'true to myself' and I'm using it as a form of market research. ISince Oakleaf Camp isn't until the end of July I think I'll put them in my Etsy Shop. The Purple Pixie.

Here the canvases are diplayed in their correct directions. The Fire Canvas is more red/Orange than shown on the photo.

The 10 Commandments According to The Purple Pixie

I first read this on Nemeton’s Blog….and thought I would try and start a craze. Email me here if you make up your own set of Commandments and I’ll put links on my Blog.
I hope they bring a smile to your face….

The 10 Commandments Purple Pixie Style!

1)Thou shalt not take in any more animals without asking yourself 3 times… is there any one else I can palm them off on to….even at the cost of friends dreading your call!

2)Thou shalt not worry about your hair going grey, the white ones look ‘really’ purple when dyed anyway.

3)Thou shalt not lie on the floor, with your arms and legs in the air, screaming and kicking, when laughter is an option. When all else fails an exception can be made to this commandment.

4)Thou shalt not listen to
Glastonbury Radio 24/7

5)Thou shalt not be afraid of anything smaller than you, unless there is no antidote!

6)Thou shalt not complain that the heating bill is too heavy in winter, then spend all summer trying to cool the house down complaining that it’s too hot.

7)Thou shalt not sacrifice a good long soak in a hot
LUSH bath for anything…. Even good food – Hey a girl has her standards!

8)Thou shalt not buy new clothes in preference to Art Materials

9)Thou shalt not eat anything with 4 legs, or 2 for that matter! even when someone cooks bacon sandwiches and you start dribbling all over the floor

10) Thou shalt not obsessively count down the days until your next camp

Old Kitchen New Kitchen

A few weeks ago I told you I was getting a new kitchen fitted. Nothing special in that, except it’s 20 years since I had this one put in and even then it was second hand from my next door neighbour who was moving.
My neighbour had only had the kitchen a couple of years and I bought it off her….just a few months before the housing association said they were coming to fit a new one. I told then that I had bought one so not to bother. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I applied for a new kitchen and was approved.

Funny it ‘really’ didn’t look that bad until all the surfaces were emptied and everything went into boxes in the shed…. I had made an attempt of painting it a few tomes just to tide me over, but there’s’ only so much you can do. I put off decorating for the last couple of years as I just knew the minute I had it painted the beggars would turn up to rip it out, you can count on that.

This was the kitchen before….

2 and half days later, the electrics were all redone, the washing machine moved and wired in (no more extension lead!), the fridge was wired in and an extractor fan fitted, the cooker was moved, the kitchen was fitted, the tiling was done and all I had to do was make a few cups off coffee and stay out of the way… oh yes and keep my menagerie safe upstairs too. It must have been a record!

This is what it looked like when they left……

2 weeks later T came round and painted the ceiling and walls for me, just the glossing to do now which can wait until a rainy day. Somehow lavender doors no longer go with light terracotta…. I wanted a colour and what a job…. I (like Violette) ‘Don’t do beige! Anyway, I’m well pleased. The dark worktops make a good contrast with food that I prepare so I can see so much better without straining my eyes and knocking things off worktops that I haven’t seem (always good for a laugh) . The photos and this blog entry are for my mum really as she’s unlikely to see the kitchen anytime in the near future.

Anyway, I digress... this is what it looks like now!

I was dreading the whole upheaval of the new kitchen and really thought it would be a mammoth task, but I’m sure you’ll agree, it was worth waiting for.

Flogging Blogging

Sometimes I wonder why I blog. Whose benefit am I doing this for? Then I look back over the last 2 and ½ years I’ve used it and it takes me back to my memories of childhood where I actually kept a diary. I’ve always liked writing….. and I suppose not being ‘Arty’ calligraphy and lettering was a way to express my creativity without feeling useless. I can’t draw….. well not to any great degree and certainly even less so now I have no centre vision. Through the words I commit to paper I am expressing a part of me, part of my inner most core. Words of hope, joy, aspirations…..
I know through past experience that if I was to start and actual ‘diary’ I probably would have given up after a couple of months, then left it so long that after a couple more months of non entry it would have seemed like a waste of time.
I try to be honest in my Blog…sometimes too honest. We leave ourselves wide open for judgement, criticism and sometimes don’t think before we post. Yet there’s something quite special about Blogging. Through out writing, we are sharing our souls…. Our joys and our sorrows, our excitement and pain. We’re not really sure whether anyone is going to read it, but it matters not a jot. In some ways it relives us of our inner voice, whether that voice is telling us something we want to know or not. It’s comforting when people comment because they find something funny and humorous or just that you have touched something within themselves that they can identify with. Somehow it feels safe… like telling stuff to your closest friend…. But most of these friends we will never meet. However, they still pop by to see how you are and show their support and that they care. They comfort you and tell you….no you’re not going mad because of your crazy thoughts….but then add but there again if you are, well that makes to of us!

I Blog about my work, my spirituality, my pets, my love life (ok not in any great detail but something’s are best left to the imagination – lol) I talk about my fears and my travels….oh yeah and mundane stuff like my new kitchen (you’d think I was the first to get one!). Overall I blog to share, to inspire people to create, to touch another human being, to share information and interesting links of something that’s caught my eye or even just to get something off my chest. Blogs build up a network of like minded people that would otherwise never have met.
I ramble on and wonder why people can even be bothered to read some of the crap I write, but still they return. I have had almost 9,000 visitors now….9,000! Can you believe that I write anything that is really that important as to attract people to read my stuff…. Sheesh! It blows me away!
Anyway, I have another night on my own. I’ve had a bust few weeks, so I’ll be blogging like mad tonight probably just to catch up….if for no other reason than to record my life….. for myself and anyone else who’s bored enough to read it. Lol.
With love, light and bright blessings,
Sue xxx

What I think will happen in 2012 (Long warning!)

Ok, I’m the first to admit I have some rather weird, wacky and way out, unconventional ideas about life and the #way it is’. I want to be that person who believes life is fantastic and live I a more positive frame of mind. I suppose my fear is that by trying to put the world to right I come over sometimes as a negative person, but I think this negativity is more frustration at the way the would ‘could be’ if only people would speak out and be counted.

For many years now I have looked at all types of spiritual paths and learnt a great deal from them all. I’ve always searched for a path that would fit me 100% or course now older and wiser I realise that I am a unique human being and there is no one out there quite like me….Thank God I hear you say! Lol.

I ‘know’ that pared down to basics there is very little I want or need in life. I balk at materialism and the social trapping that society gets itself into.
Over the last 9 months I have learnt more about myself than I ever thought possible. Like I’m on some sort of spiritual quest that is like a rollercoaster and I feel a real sense of urgency to put everything I know and have learnt in order and clarify once again just who I am and where I am coming from and indeed where I am going.

Do I think the world will end in 2012?
No. But it will be the end of things as we know it and I truly believe that we (we being those on an alternative – no materialistic path) We are growing in numbers and being more and more enlightened every help those who have not being looking with wide open eyes what is happening all around them. I have blogged in the past about how fast technology is moving and ‘we’ as a society get sucked in to thinking that we ‘need’ this or that…..for fear of looking impoverished or behind the times. There is no doubt that there is huge energy shifts at the moment, not only myself but friends and bloggers all over the world (those in the know) feel it too. One minute you can be all calm and relaxed..... next minute fear and anxiety, or thigs just feeling very doom and gloom, then as quickly as it started it goes away. This can take place over minutes, hours or a couple of days.

What I see is a world where there is no longer a sense of community, no pulling together, people hardly know their neighbours any more! Familys have been moved around in order to get work. People are in debt because it was so easy to gain credit and so HAVE to both go out to work while someone else brings up your kids.
When my son was at school I was expected to help him with his homework and as far as I know this still happens in schools…errrr is it me or what? So, Mother comes in at 6 o’clock at night, makes a meal, everyone sits down to eat at 7, then there’s the pots to clear away …Oh yeah and help the kids with their homework! After you have been up since 7am and got the kids ready for school then done a days work and perhaps shopped on your way home…..Hmmmmm Fantastic.
On many occasions I throw my arms up in despair and wonder if the whole worlds gone mad (Glastonbury Residents excluded – lol)

Anyway…I just want to post something below that I wrote a week ago but thought it may be too controversial for my blog so was undecided on whether to post or not….decided to sit on it….and also didn’t finish it….so excuse me if it makes no sense……but here goes……

THIS WAS WRITTEN on THIRSDAY 13th March 2008
I’m not sure whether or not this will ever reach my public blog or not, II suppose I have a fear of people thinking I’m mad or have lost the plot….perhaps I am and have! …but feel that there is some sense of urgency to get down in writing what I have to say….for what reason I’ve no idea! But here goes…..

For quite some time now I have had weird and powerful feelings. These have ranged from the most terrible fear and despair to great feelings of elation and excitement, I must stress here that these feeling aren’t for me and my future but the way the world is going. I suppose being an artistic creative type that sort of fits in with what I do. But somehow, and I can’t explain why, I feel it is far more than that.

The world is changing at a rapid rate. I feel we are all puppets on a string and no one wants to stand up and be counted, yet ‘we’ the ones who are spiritually developed are coming together, closer and closer and there can be no denying that there is a growing number of people on this path.
We as a society are divided between the ones that are asleep, the ones that are stirring gently and then falling back asleep again and those that are fully awake, open and receptive.
There is a huge variety of spiritual paths and belief systems to follow but ultimately it matters not a jot as to which one you’re on…..it’s how you see and treat your fellow man that will be needed.

The governments need cash flow in the economy in order to gain taxes to fund their spending. If people don’t spend the governments don’t make money….simple as that. After the Thatcher days and when people were relatively still quite badly off this New Labour Government came in and reduced interest which made borrowing money easier than ever before. We began to see that we could have anything and everything we wanted…we didn’t need to wait any longer. Take out a load or buy now pay later, bombarded with credit cards, store cards, cheap mortgages…..Oh I could go on for ever. The more money we borrowed, the more we had to work, a few rises in interest rates and yikes have to work some more…and more and more….
So instead of mothers doing what they do best and having a ‘choice’ that had to leave the care and control of their children to others and also go out and get a job. Now forgive me if I’m a bit off track here, but it seems to me that if the women were at home the kids would have a better upbringing and have a sense of family values and there would be more work for the men that want to work.
Anyway, I digress…..all this had led to people valuing objects money and materialistic things over friendship, community and people skills. What ever happened to the neighbour who used to pop in to make sure the poor pensioner on the end of the block was ok? What happened to the friend who you could ring any time of the day or night if you had an emergency or just needed to chat? What happened to the person who walked past you and said hello as you walked to the shops….just to bring a smile to your face? What happened to the parents that used to play in the street with their kids…joined by other kids and parents? There all bloody working to pay off their debts that’s what!
It’s now the norm to work your arse off to fill the pockets and some fat cat director who does little more than that…DIRECT! While the rest of us slavishly come home late at night, weary and with the worries of the world on our shoulders and because we are so tired we have little time to think…..perhaps that’s the idea!

It’s not rocket science that somehow, somewhere the light will go on. People are already realising that material wealth and objects somehow still leaves a gap in their happiness. They feel unfulfilled. Eventually the light has to go on. People just have to realise what’s really real and who’s pulling the strings here. I can’t believe that we haven’t had a revolution yet. FREE TIME TO ENJOY LIFE CANNOT BE BOUGHT! Once the time has been spent, whether at work or play….it’s gone forever!

I’m not sure what’s going to happen in the year 2012 but what I am sure about is that people slowly but surely are waking up. They are being shown the way by those who have seen it coming. Whether or not they want to listen is a matter of choice. We will be there for them when they do.
Perhaps the big bang is going to happen sooner rather that later. It’s only people WITH money that have it in the bank, those without HAVE NOWT, I have the most dreadful feeling that the banks are going to crash and money will be lost….on a really Big scale. Therefore, people with money (large companies included) who think they have it all could very well have very little. For the first time since the World Wars, people will be on a more level pegging and will ‘have to; come together’. I wonder if those people who looked down on the less materialistic or less wealthy would be so quick to judge then? Hmmmm somehow I just know the ones who will be the most resourceful and least affected by this change.
Is you money safe? Not long ago Northern Rock almost went bust….just what if a large American Bank had a crash and it affected ALL the high street banks…. I really do wonder how safe people would feel then.

Oppppsss....A bit of a prediction there me thinks!
Just tonight, this crash HIT THE NEWS
Now I really MUSt learn to post things when they come into my mind and NOT leave them for fear of being seen a freak with totally weird and onconventional ideas! Either that or keep my BIg Fat mouth firmy shut!

Now that IS weird!

Have a history teacher
explain this-----
if they can.
Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.
Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860
. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.
Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.
Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head & in broad daylight

Now it gets really weird.
Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.
Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.
Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.
John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who as sassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.
Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.
Now hang on to your seat.
Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'
Lincoln was shot in a theater
and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse
and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.
Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.
And here's the real historical kicker ...
A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland
A week before Kennedy was shot,
he was allegedly IN Marilyn Monroe.

2012 - The End of the World Is NOT Nigh!

As an avid listener to Glastonbury Radio and in particular Ross Hemsworths show 'Now That's Weird' I am happy to carry out Ross's request. I ask that before you poo poo this, you may like to do a little research of your own. Like Ross says....it's up to you. Ross is a well respected Author, TV and Radio presenter and was a total sceptic on all things paranormal...until he started to research it! lol.
With love light and blessings,
Sue

The following is posted directly from the email Ross sent me....

PLEASE read this very carefully.....Many times in the past, so called "prophets" have warned of the end of the world and the "end times" only to see those times pass without any noticeable effect on mankind, and once again the "sooth-sayers" are predicting the end of the world for 2012 in line with the predictions of the Mayan calendar. This time it may be different......Now whilst this time time around something big IS likely to happen, I personally do not see this as the "end times" but the chance of a new beginning! My channels tell me that as a "Planet of choice" we have free will to decide our own destinies, and every now and again we are given the opportunity to rise to the higher planes, or return back to the endless cycle of reincarnations in the human form, and 2012 represents our best chance yet to make that jump to those higher planes. To take that leap - we must get the message out to the masses that this is a time for change (no small task!) and that some serious work is needed to rid the world of wars, hatred, anger, greed and make that progression as a race. Impossible you say? No actually it ISN'T!My travels around the world have shown me that now as never before, people are opening up and listening, and more and more people are following this exciting new course and finding happiness and contentment. I mean given the choice of this or going back and living your human lives over and over again facing the same battles, dilemnas and pain, which would YOU choose?I would ask that you copy and paste this blog and send it to 10 of your friends, and ask them to do the same - to spread this word worldwide, and let each individual KNOW what is happening and give them the free choice to decide whether they want to progress and evolve or stagnate! The governments of the world are pushing us towards globalisation, control by debt and a police state, and false-flag operations such as 9/11 and a massive future "alien event" - and as Ian Crane recently said in one of his lectures "after the World Trade Centre we were fooled once, but will we be fooled TWICE?" Some call this the New World Order and maybe they are right - but we have the power to accept or refuse what is being forced upon us.Peak oil? If oil was THAT low wouldn't we be on rationing by now? Would they be extending airports if there was no fuel for the planes? Wake up and smell the asparthame!! You are being CONNED by your governments every day and NOW is the time to yell the WAKE UP CALL!You may think I am mad sending out a message like this and if 2013 arrives without consequence, then you can tell me so - but are YOU willing to take a chance? I believe I have enough evidence now to certiainly convince ME and I shall be acting on it. Whether you do so is again a matter of free choice. So please - send this on to ten friends (no spamming please!) and let each and every individual make up their own minds.Together we CAN make a difference.

Calling all eco warriors

I’ve talked about this before but want to write about it again. It has for a long time been a constant source of amusement when synchronicity happens in my life.

Synchronicity can’t be explained as mere coincidences. Very often the things we have read or things that we have been musing about come back to us in a variety of messages, sometimes when we happen to be watching TV something will happen to be mentioned, or someone will just spontaneously bring something into a conversation, or we will read about it…all quite out of the blue.
I suppose it depends whether we are open or closed to these messages as to whether or not we accept them as coincidences or acts of synchronicity.
If we want to know whether something is right or wrong… put it out there and ask the universe to give you a sign or clues as to whether or not it’s a good idea and in your highest interest. Usually within a very short time you will be given the answer…sometimes subtly, sometimes like a bolt out of the blue.

For quite some time now I have been increasingly frustrated at the disposable, consumer led society we live in these days
.(See my post here) In North Yorkshire the local council has just started its recycling programme….and not before time either! In neighbouring counties they have been doing this for a few years!
I think that it’s because of this recycling that we are now forced to look at how much waste we are producing. It now becomes visible instead of just hiding it in your garbage bin in an out of sight out of mind sort of way.
While throwing out the rubbish and sorting everything for recycling I’ve often wondered who is running the show. We no longer live in a society that replaces things that are broken but seduced and encouraged by all the ads. We are bombarded daily with the latest detergents that get your clothes not just clean BUT REALLY clean, (DUH!) we have stuff to make even the dirtiest houses at least smell like mountain air, (like we are all to stupid to open windows and would prefer to buy it in a can), household cleaners that bleach, ultra clean and disinfects every conceivable nook and cranny….phew the list is endless and it makes you really wonder what on earth we all did without them.
More importantly while on the one hand the government is hammering home recycling and more eco friendly by making us ever more aware that we should walk or bike rather than drive to prevent damage to the environment….but on the other hand do absolutely NOTHING about advertising and promoting products that make us believe that our lives will be richer and more fulfilled in some way.

We are encouraged to go out and buy the latest phones, computers, washing machines, microwave, TV’s, DVD;s, tumble dryers, dishwashers, gadgets and EVEN cars! NOT because the ones we have are broken…but because….THERE is a better and later version!

So the very fact that some of us are brainwashed into thinking that we NEED these things we are in turn adding to the problem of too much waste, therefore by buying something just because it’s more up to date and before the last one is broken we are actually destroying our planet and adding to our global downfall.
All this brings me to a video I found quite by accident….it’s 20 minutes long, but please take time out to watch it. It will make you think and perhaps next time you are manipulated and convinced by advertising that you really DO need something, a little light may just make you turn away and think that the best thing you can possibly do is leave it right where it is…on the shelf. Only then will the manufacturers and the government have to sit up and take notice.

Advertising works by convincing you that you need this product. Everything should come with a government health warning…. WARNING, BUYING THIS PRODUCT CAN SERIOUSLY AFFECT THE PLANET…..and if you don’t believe me click on
THIS LINK I almost guarantee that it will at the very least give you something to think about and at the most it will encourage you to act more responsibly and stop you contributing to the distruction of our beautiful planet.
And I've had to come bacj and re-edit this post as I have found that this lady has a blog - The Story of Stuff - http://www.storyofstuff.com/blog/
Mainly aimed at the American Market, but with lots of hints and tips and things we can all gain something from. Say NO to stuff!

North East Scribes More Photos

I don't know what's happened over the last couple of weeks.... perhaps the floods distreacted me, but I've had these photos and meant to blog them ages ago!
I started my teaching career way back in 1988 and 20 years ago!!!! Where does the time go!!!! Anyway, it was ironic that I found myself back at the Art Centre in Darlington to teach some of my closest friends from my calligraphy past and some of these people I have known for the 20 years that have passed. Not too worrying until you realise that I was then younger than my son is now! NOW THAT’S SCAREY!

Anyway, the second Saturday in January we all met and I was there to teach them a contemporary lettering style to use in contrast to their more formal lettering that is so common for the calligraphers in the UK to use.
And below are some of the photo’s their wonderful work! Didn’t they do well? And remember this was the first time most of these folk had done this particular style.
It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with everyone, reminisce over old times and remind ourselves of the fun and laughs we have shared over the years.
The Art Centre has been revamped, refurbished and remodelled. I’m not sure I like the clean cut image that the building now portrays…. I remember the ‘good old days’ where there were Beer Festivals, Folk Festivals and Jazz nights….. Where the students hung around at lunchtime and the whole place had a ‘lived in’ feel…. Oh yes for the Good Old Days. Oh no….now I’m starting to sound old! Reminiscing and being nostalgic about the past! Have to stop this, Pixies don’t get old! Lol.
Please keep scrolling down for more of the work from the students of North East Scribes

Update Part 3

Hehehehehe! Seems it's not over yet! Further to my previous posts, this is what arrived via email today from one of the culprits. Amazingly, this has attracted more media attention than the stone circle we are building at Sentry and that's taken the best part of 2 years. Perhaps it's not contemporary enough? lol
Enjoy!

Beautiful Women

This was sent by email from a friend and I just want to share it with you...

To all the beautiful women in my life

We need to remind each other sometimes....

One Flaw In Women
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens,
but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy a
nd laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take 'no' for an answer
when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without, so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel
and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member,
yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colours.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you
to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have the compassion and ideas.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN,
IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.

Thinking of you Bob

It's almost 6 years since my very 1st Pagan Camp and at that camp I met a very lots of special people....but one couple in particular stood out from all the rest and I believe for whatever reason, made a lasting impression on me. Their names are Sue and Bob. Sue is a regular commenter on my Blog, but doesn't have one yet, so her comments are usually Anon. These two are wonderfully kind, caring and loveing people who never seem to be short of people around them. They are true beings of light who brighten up everything and everyone around them.

Yesterday, after a wonderful day out with T, I came home and after reading a comment from her just had to ring. Bob, has cancer and starts his treatment today (Monday).
I am appealing to readers of my blog to light a candle and send your prayers in any way you worship for Bob. And please dear readers, if you comment on this post I will see thet both Sue and Bob get your messages.
Bob,,,I send you strength and courage and a full recovery. I know that you will be looked after. Please know that my thoughts are with you.
You are a wonderfully special couple and my love and thoughts are with you. I light this candle as a symbol of that love and ask that you go through your treatment and painlessly as possible.

Just Sharing

I’m not sure if anyone’s noticed but my counter has changed. While looking at Johnny Virgil’s site ‘The 15 Minute Blogger’ (A guy I find highly amusing!) I came across something about checking his his and tracking his visitors. So, after closer inspection of this counter I’ve added it to my blog.
I always wonder why people are so fascinated with reading my blog, I’m just a normal lass, doing rather mundane things, getting through life as best I can and really don’t think I have anything really interesting or special to blog about. I wonder if it’s a sort of twitching curtain thing. One where you can get an insight to someone else’s life, ideas and even psychoanalyse people …. Which terrifies the life out of me (lol) But realise that it’s much more than that…. It’s a way of networking, contacting others or simply making connections to another so we perhaps don’t feel so alone.
OK….so I added this tracker….they are harmless and most sites have them. They are a way of finding out who your target market is and where they come from. The advantage of using
site meter is huge. It shows me many things one of which is how many visitors…..like this

Added to that I can find out WHERE my visitors come from…..

Singapore!!!!???? Well, I suppose anythings possible!

And how they got there. This site came up regularly
Money Saving Expert
And I really was amused…wondered how the hell my link had got on there….so I delved deeper….
I was most amused to find this….

New Year Wish

When I first saw this video on the OBOD site....It brought tears to my eyes I think it's poignant, moving and beautiful! If I could have any wish for my blog readers for the coming year....it would be this....

Eat Well, Sleep Deeply,
for tomorrow comes....
And it's all yours!
And above all else
watch with
glittering eyes
the whole world
around you,
because
the greatest
secrets
are always hidden
in the most
unlikely places
Those who don't
believe in
magic
will never find it.

Amusing Myself

It's been one of those days...you know the ones...where it's too cold and too wet to do anything but get to grips with the housework that's long forgotten and keep yourself amused.
Tony took me through to Darlington last night where we joined others in a small drumming circle....and we really 'rocked'. There was a poster on the door from a band wanting a drummer...I don't think that Djembes were exactly what they were after, but think they could have done far worse! lol.

Today, I've played
The Dolmen and one song in particular never ceases to amuse me and bring a smile to my face. I think I have to do this as my next piece of calligraphy...here are the lyrics...

DARKSKIES by The Dolmen

Dark skies call my name
Not as a stranger but as a friend
Dark skies call and wait
No sign of impatience butNo time to waste

Dark skies rain upon my face

As we dance within the stones
A moor land wind gathers like a ghost
To an audience of mystic fairy folk

Rich green moss blankets the sacred ground
Cushions made of nature beneath our hands
A passing rook winks a knowing eye
As we listen to the world and all its cries.

Dark sky hold us tight
Wrapped all around the woven silk of night
As we journey were guided by the song
Mystic fairy folk help us sing along

Dark skies rain upon my face
As we dance within the stones
A moor land wind gathers like a ghost
To an audience of mystic fairy folk

If you want to hear the lyrics sung, click
HERE
and listen to the YouTube video,
the song is about 1/3 of the way through.
The song is from the Album Dolmen Folk
available from here.
I think we've seen them twice this year at the Mercian Gathering and again at Witchfest. If you like Folk Rock and want to really feel your age with this lively band, please go and see them!

Creative Bookbinding

The following post is for anyone and everyone interested in making their own books but is at a loss tho where to start... in particular Alison from Woolgathering While I Sew .formally known as Foxgloves In The Breeze. (Hi Alison!)

I’ve lost count of the number of books I have, both calligraphy and Creative bookbinding. This book: Cover to Cover Creative Techniques for Making Beautiful Books, Journals and Albums, was one of the first ‘Creative’ Bookbinding books I ever bought and it’s been well used over the years.
Shereen did write another book,
The Art and Craft of Handmade Books

But there were many mistakes in it and she was so furious with the publishers that she wrote a huge amount of corrections on her web page. She was taking issue with the publishers, but sadly died from Cancer in September 2003 before the matter was resolved.

Another good book is Creating Handmade Books by Alisa Golden and she also wrote Unique Handmade Books.

All 3 books are good for either beginner or improver and focus on the more Creative and contemporary side of bookbinding rather than traditional.

Still doing it to death....

Well, not run out of ideas yet...still doing it to death! lol.

How comforting!

I managed to catch my mum on Instant Messenger last night and was telling her about this guy blog (The blog being 15 minute lunch) and how funny it was. She replied ‘Is it anyone we know?’. Well, I don’t know him and I think he comes from the States I replied. Now I must tell you at this point my mum has only recently got herself a computer and is practically self taught. She was a red head in her coloured hair stage, so you can imagine there has been much frustration at wanting to run before she walks when learning new things…AHEM. So although she knows I have ablog, I doubt very much that she reads it too often and I’m sure her eldest daughters life is too mundane really to be of any interest. Anyway, I really thought that she would laugh at this blog and especially the entry Strap in, shut up and hold on. We're going back. …. But she didn’t….she gently reminded me that this was the year I left school and home so I must have remembered clothes like that…..Errrrm… yes probably remembered them but didn’t ACTUALLY wear them….well I don’t think….OK OK I admit to wanting one of those tartan unisex shirts, but it’s only because I was into the Bay City Rollers….GULP! Did I really say that? And I’m sorry mum but I NEVER saw dad wearing a peppermint green trouser suit or and orange jump suit come to that… and if we want to talk about embarrassing clothes and the wearing of…. Didn’t you have a ‘shell suit’? I NEVER had one of those. Mind you, Mrs. eternal hippy here has never been the height of fashion so I expect that explains it. Lol.

and for anyone who doesn't know what a 'Shell Suit' looks like...Are you ready for this...it was neither made of shells, nor was it smart enough to wear as a suit. The rustled when you walked and the white ones were see through! They so and so's for static electricity and highly flamible! Don't all rush at once!

What a laugh!

Last week I made the executive decision to treat myself to a self inflating camping mat, while they were on special offer. Over the last year I’ve increasingly suffered with bad hips when sleeping on a conventional air bed. There’s also the added pain in the neck of pumping the darn things up and having to lug around the large pump.
I wasn’t expecting delivery so soon but the delivery company tried to deliver on Friday while I was at work. The result of this is that today I’ve had to take the day off as failure to deliver a second time would have resulted in it been returned to sender.
Well, it’s finally arrived and is inflating as we speak.
Because of this I’ve had time to catch up on a few blogs and look over a few more…..because of this I just couldn’t help sharing this with you 15 minute Lunch ….what a laugh. Makes me wonder what I’ve got lurking in my attic!
Also on the same blog is Advice for Batman, avoid camping with catwoman! Also worth a read!

Laying on my back....screaming and kicking!

Please note: This posting is in no way directed at anyone who is fascinated or indeed likes the wonders of modern science and technology…. It’s just a rant for one person who isn’t and doesn’t want to play the game!

Is it me?
Am I going mad?
(Some would say I already am….in the nicest way I’m sure! Lol)
Whats the world coming to?
Are we part of some great conspiracy?
Do we have any ‘free will’?
Is there no escape?

What with iPods, iTunes, iPhones, You-Tubes, faster downloads, Didgital, Wireless, cordless……faster, bigger, stronger, more memory,
And a whole website dedicated to them! , This on Amazon! ARRRGGGHHH! The faster things go, the more I want to run away to the hills and get back to the simple life!
I get scared when I think of the speed that technology is advancing and propelling itself at great speed. The further advanced we get the more distant getting back to our ‘old ways’ of life becomes. I live in fear of the waste of human resources, of over taxing the planet we live on, of wars and global warming….the technology of the future seems to be at the opposite ends of the scale to caring about our planet for future generations. Our local council is hell bent on re-cycling, but I don’t think for one minute they are doing it for the planet. The literature talks about waste and energy saving and dresses it up with environmental issues to make us feel good that we are doing something to help….then refuses to recycle cardboard, even though we can take it to the tip ourselves which is a car journey away…hmmmm….fuel? Carbon Emissions, footprints? So they will collect the waste that = money, and they will get paid for that waste, but bet your bottom dollar that they will put the council tax up next year to pay for the collecting. And those who REALLY care will have to use their cars anyway to visit the recycle station, so may as well recycle the whole lot in one journey!
The councils here in the UK are committed to building an enormous amount of housing over the next 20 years. We have an acute housing shortage in the UK, but building more will not help, as prices are out of the reach of most young couples today. They are looking at prefabricated housing, something that was common in the 1940’s as a cure for the housing shortage. So by going forward it seems we may be going backward!

I really wonder sometimes where this will all end.
It seems the more gadgets and new technology comes on to the market, the less time we have to do the more ‘real’ things in life….like taking a walk in nature, appreciating the beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis, taking time with our children to teach them about the things in life that are free…..not only free in monetary terms, but free-ing in spirit.
I feel that whether we like it or not, we are not free spirits, but are forced to conform to the trappings of modern gadgetry and technology. It wasn’t so long ago that CD’s were invented, and if you still wanted to listen to your favourite music, like it or not, you have been forced to buy a CD player, because vinyl records became obsolete. Now we are forced to but Digital TV’s because all TV programmes are going to be transmitted this way and the big switchover is imminent. Before long, we will all have to have iPods or iPhones as the only music you will be able to get your hands on will be downloaded.
Arrrggghhh…..
In a nut shell technology is here to stay. We are part of a system and we can’t get out of it! Anyone running to the hills with me? My bell tents big enough for 8! Pick up your drums and lets all ruuunnnn awwwwaaayyyyy!!!!

One thing is for sure……
The best things in life are free!
And NO-ONE can take that away!

Your thoughts please in the way of a comment.
and one last thing....if you've read this far you may like to take a look at this site

Love, light and bright blessings,
The Purple Pixie
