What's going on!!!!

Well if you're wondering where I've been and what's going on....jaunt over to my Inspired by Script Blog to see for yourself....or simply click on the links above the photos.

This year has got off to a flying start and I've written 4 blog posts this evening....and I haven't even scratched the surface.
I've already done a Wedding Order....

I have a separate Wedding Website,
just for the Wedding Side of my business
I already sold a Piece of work....
Had another one Commissioned....

Written and personalised a Baby Birth Certificate....

And made a concertina card
for a very ill lady in Sussex

We've booked 2 Wedding Fairs and Steve has got 2 shows booked for his Jewellery...Oh yes and did I mention 3 Art Shows this year too. I've also got a day teaching at North East Scribes next month....which I am so looking forward to. It's nice to get together with like minded folk and I love teaching and inspiring others. We also have plans to expand the Wedding side of the business....but more about that later. All in all we have a busy year ahead, but one that we are both looking forward to. It's nice to have the support and encouragement that we so often need when working as artists and for ourselves. Having someone to bounce ideas off is so important.

It's been a long time...I mean a real long time....but all I seem to have been doing for the last year is Baby Boy Certificates. Now at last a welcome relief....

What's Been Going On...

Well.....lots and lots and lots and lots actually....and as most followers and readers of my blog are also friends with me on Face Book....I won't re-hash the more personal news here. However, first off, new direction and with the rethinking of my business and the need to actually not only pay my bills but also at some point in my life make a living out of it, I've started with the repainting of the Gallery...
Many paint swatches and much dilemma as well as being terrified of picking a neutral, neutral that would go with just about anything....All the shelves were painted too, so at last I feel like the whole place comes together.....much like my old place in Darlington.
The pale shelves set off the Concertina Books wonderfully.
And are just as suited to the Paler pieces of work....
As they are to the brighter pieces.....
All in all, I'm happy with the result. I have taken down old, worn out and jaded pieces of my work that no longer reflect my work now and the services available. Now, in between working I need to rehash the store room, which was originally a store room come office. I feel creatively stifled sometimes and I need to reopen my space. A good weekend and a skip seems like a good idea lol. More blogging and more photos will follow, until then, keep your Creative Spirits flowing,
Meanwhile if you want to follow me on FaceBook CLICK HERE
Brightest Blessings,
Sue xxx

NEW - Baby Birth Announcement Cards

After a few days on monitoring, mainly because my daughter-in-laws blood pressure was high and the baby’s heart kept going dangerously low, baby Daisy Simpson decided to make her grand entrance almost 5 weeks early. It was not only a shock to us but also the doctors and midwife monitoring Sarahs progress as  she had just checked on her and had to be shouted back. Chaos reigned and she was whisked off to the labour ward almost giving birth in the corridor!  Baby Daisy  was born last Tuesday weighing 5lb 4oz and has been in the Special Care Baby Unit since then. All seems to be well….her first picture shows her black eyes caused by the doctor wielding his set of forceps. Daisy has a habit of pulling in ropes. First in the womb, causing the heart stoppages (apparently it’s common!) and now constantly pulling her feeding tube out and removing the plaster too…now she looks like a red Indian with striped either side of her cheeks

Sadly, nowadays, so many family members live a fair distance away and our families are no exception. After designing the new Wedding Cards with the fold over flap, I thought it would be a good idea to also offer these in my shop, so families far and wide could at least meet the new arrival. The design is simple but effective and ordering is made easy. Send us the details of the parents, the name, weight, date and time of birth and a .jpg picture attachment to email….we’ll do the rest. Then is all you need do is peel off the cover of the self adhesive double sided tape, stick down, address, add a stamp and send through the post. A card and an envelope all in one. Sent with a book of stamps, this would make a fuss free gift that will be appreciated by new busy mums and dads. They are already for sale in the shop CLICK HERE TO BUY

And this is my beautiful Granddaughter now…. A few days on and looking more like she’s ready for the world. Still a sleepy head and despite prodding and poking from Grandma refuses to walk up… the picture was taken by her dad… Grandma can’t wait to tell her about Grandmas Magic Tepee and all the adventures we are going to have!

Nursery Rhymes. - Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Many years ago now I worked on a large broadsheet which contained a lot of Children's Nursery Rhymes. My original reason for this is that I wanted to turn it into a full sized, full colour printed poster. It was sent with a large amount of my work to be put in an exhibition and promote calligraphy around the North East area.
I was delayed in picking the work up and the centre change managers and despite their reassurance that everything was safe....the whole exhibition was lost. Much of it was my precious gold Leaf work.

While I have been working on and off with developing these letters over the last few months, I realised that the letters particularly lend themselves to Nursery Rhymes. This is my interpretation of Twinkle Twinkle....

I've used tiny caps (my favourite) as a contrast to the informal 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'. Perhaps you will see this better.

And this is a close up detail of the letters I've been working on....

Unfortunately I don't get much chance to do big pieces of work these days. as the vast majority of my work is either for commission or for sale. This one is for sale :o)

Baby Birth Idea - Astrological Concertina Card

I've been working on a couple of commissions, in collaboration with a superb astrologer Simon Greene. He works out the chart and gives me the info and I put it all together to produce a concertina card/book.
The details inside contain a basic personality profiles as well as characteristics and traits of the babies in question.

The books open up into a star or stand upright by untying the two end ribbons. A wonderful idea for any new parents.

We are taking orders, and the charts can be for anyone, they don't have to be babies! so if you are interested, email me at inspiredbyscript@yahoo.co.uk for further details.

September Musings

A journey of a thousand miles,
starts with a single step

What a month September was! Just looking back and reflecting on the changes that seem to come hand in hand with the turning of the wheel and our journey into Autumn.

I had a wonderful birthday....my son and his wife surprised me with this wonderful 'icecream' birthday cake, complete with glitter and sparkles and a special Happy Birthday to the Purple Pixie on it....Hmmmm delicious :o)

My birthday day was spent at Stokesley show with family. And in the livestock tent...I saw this.....
A wonderful rare breed rabbit (called a hare actually although it is a rabbit) a perfect replica of a Moon Gazing Hare! I WANT ONE!!!!!

Ive done a couple of Christening posters...
And two pieces of work for an exhibition., I'll write about these in another blog post.

Stokesley show and my birthday was definitely a turning point. I have a deep fear of heights and fair ground rides. After my first declaration about needing to overcome my fears on both these levels while staring at the big wheel and changing my mind half a dozen times.....I did it! Ironically doing that was a catalyst towards other moves I was about to make and really wasn't prepared for.
Many years ago I used Bach Flower Remedies. I was last weekend in a very strange place, I needed to make a decision about my 'relationship' (if you can call it that with the said Beltane Man. I tried to shift my preconceived ideas and deal with how I 'didn't feel' about him, and I really did try and get at least some feeling for him.....but they just weren't there. We had nothing in common. He is very laid back, to the point he had no dreams, no excitement and no real motivation. My sense of humour I'm sure he found pathetic and even at times childish, but there again that's me! lol. And I knew I had to end it as it was going and never would go anywhere. I took the remedies (6 of them actually!) and something shifting in me to give me the courage to say goodbye. No tears, no anger, no....nothing really. Just relief. I was finding the relationship depressing....and I don't need that. So happy Pixie is on her own.
Then my friend dying, while tragic though it was, made me have to take a train journey on my own for the first time since I lost my sight. Was I scared? Yes! I was absolutely terrified. But it was either that or miss her funeral. More remedies...I took them and I did it! And now.....Well, now I have the bug for travelling! I don't know where I'm going and where I will end up, but I have to do this, again and again and again. It's the only way to overcome fear.....Oh yes....the Pixiie Power is back!

Hand Made Baby Christening Gift

On of the joys of my career is making special gifts for special people. Claire rang me at the studio and asked me to make a Baby’s Christening Journal for her 6 month old daughter Connie Violet (what a beautiful name) like I had made for her son Oscar James some 3 years before.

The opening page had her name, date and place of Christening on it….

The following Page had a 16 line poem….
Then further pages were added with spaces for the Grandparents photos with comments, Godparents Photo with comments and the rest of the 30 page book was given over to the guests.
The outside covers were white with a splash of pink Japanese Silk paper and a black and white photo of Connie was added.
I added 4 charms to the Japanese Sewn Binding. A butterfly for transformation, a little dolly, A dragonfly for peace and tranquillity and another spiral charm saying ‘Follow Your Dreams. Hopefully this will be a lasting reminder of a very special day.
The lettering was done in a baby pink gouache to match the pink on the outside.

Personalised Baby Girl Poster - The Goddess and the Butterfly

Way back in February I blogged about my newest prints: A personalised Prayer for a baby Girl or Boy. I have been fortunate enough this week to have been asked to do one for a Christening Gift for a little girl ‘Freya’. The advantage of part print, part original is twofold. Firstly from a cost point of view it is much cheaper than commissioning one from scratch, although this can be done if wishes, but secondly and more importantly it gives you scope to add details and specific items that would be meaningful to the recipient, in this case ‘Butterflies’. (Click photo to enlarge)
Freya is the Goddess of love, beauty and fertility. She was said to have blond hair and blue eyes and is reputed to be the ‘fairest’ of all the Goddesses and people prayed to her for happiness in love. She was also called on to assist in childbirth and for the kindness of the seasons. The symbolic meaning of the butterfly is similar across most cultures and time. Invariably, this beautiful Celtic animal symbol represents transformation, inspiration, and rebirth. The concept of rebirth with the Celts is particularly of importance in terms of recycling of life – both in the spiritual and physical realms. Perhaps the bible and the Byrds extol the concept best: "To every season, turn, turn turn." This was an intimate concept with the Celts, and the butterfly – in its miraculous way symbolizes transformation and rebirth.

Concertina Astrology Book

This is another Astrology/Baby Birth Concertina Card. This time for a Baby Girl and done in gorgeous pinks
Her name is done in fuchsia pink calligraphy first, then a few positive attributes added along the way.
By leaving the ribbon tied at the left the book opens out into a star. These are available to order at £20 each. Just supply the Name, date of birth and place of birth and we will do the rest. The chart is completed by a professional astrologer. Email me: inspiredbyscript@yahoo.co.uk for further details

Star Book - 3 Books in 1

A simple enough binding with an added twist. The ribbon is tied both at the left and right, giving the advantage of a variety of fastenings and makes 3 books in 1. First heres the covers.....By untying the right hand bow the construction makes a conventional book,,,,,

Bring the covers right back on themselves and retie. Making a Star Book
Then by untying both ribbons and opening out, the book becomes a long concertina. In this case a 12 page concertina.
The books was done as a commission to celebrate the birth of a baby. The astrological chart brife outline was added to the inside in a combination of both text and calligraphy

Concertina Astrology and a Nifty Binding

My latest commission…..
I’ve been working with an astrologer friend of mine, Simon Greene, on a joint project/commission incorporating a brief personality and birth chart outline with a concertina book.

Rather than just make a normal concertina I got to thinking about stars, so this time made a 3 books in 1 concertina.
The cover was made using some of the experimental decorated papers that I did using FW Iridescent Acrylic Ink and Cling Film. The technique is simple and effective. First lay down a wash of ink, watercolour or gouache, then cover with cling film (Film wrap I believe for those in the US?) and let it dry….

The first book is made by opening the right hand ties, giving a conventional type book

Continue round pulling the ribbons right the way round and re-tie so that the book becomes a Star Book…..
The third book is easy…. Undo both the front and the back bow and leave the ribbons untied giving the concertina……

Simple, effective and novel

Baby Girl Personalised Poster and Concertina Card

Well…. As if by magic…..I said a couple of posts ago, or was it the last one, that I had done the Baby Girl Poster, but everyone in the world seemed to be having boys. Then during a conversation with my friend Alison over at Eden Valley Scribes I was told that a work colleague was at that very moment, in hospital having a baby. Great news and we hoped it was a girl. An email the next day, told me it was, so I’ve had the opportunity to at last write the details of the new baby girl, Lucy Charlotte and photograph it for my blog….so here it is…..Printed in a lovely assortment of pinks…..
Close up detail. And if anyone is interested, because of the virus problem with my website, I’d advise you to email me direct. They are selling for £7.50 each, complete with personalisation and which includes P&P to mainland UK. Email me direct and I can send you an invoice by Paypal
My email is: inspiredbyscript@yahoo.co.uk

January right through to May is a crazy time for me. I have birthdays almost every week! Next week is my nephew Seans, the son of my brother Steve. So here’s the card I made him. Nothing flash as he’s a grown up teenager now and will probably be more interested in the money that’s inside it! Lol.
Close up setail: these are also £7.50. Made to order and personalised.
And I just have to show you a close up of this….
It’s a small charm, and I’ve bought a huge assortment to add to my hand made books. I just wanted charms that were a little bit different. Aren’t they lovely? Thanks Amber Moggie for directing me on where to get these, I spent a fortune! And CJ, the paper I used for the cover is a Chinese Hand Made Silk Paper, do you want some sending across the pond?
